PJ Polar Express Day at Brazos Elementary

Brazos Elementary will be hosting their first pajama clad movie day extravaganza during school hours on December 20, 2012; kickoff will be at 8:30 a.m. This is an early release day for students. Students, parents, and teachers are free to wear their school appropriate pajamas for the event. We will have a special holiday reading, caroling, and Santa visit to commemorate the holiday season followed by the movie: The Polar Express. The event will take place in the Brazos Elementary gym. Students will follow their regular lunch schedule, hence, snacks will not be allowed at the event. Feel free to bring blankets and pillows. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Cougarettes to continue playoffs in Giddings

Brazos Cougarettes will play the Lago Vista Lady Vikings at Giddings High School Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in the second round of volleyball playoffs.
Election Day is Nov. 6

Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election began Oct. 22 and will last through Nov. 2.
The Austin County Election Department, 804 E Wendt St. in Bellville, is open for early voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 2.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Precinct 4 polling locations are: Pct. 415 – Wallis Knights of Columbus Hall, 703 Columbus Road in Wallis; Pct. 416 – Sealy American Legion Post 442 (Kitchen), 1630 Meyer St. in Sealy; Pct. 417 – San Felipe Fire Station (Meeting Room), 15023 FM 1458N in San Felipe; and Pct. 418 – Frydek Confraternity Christian Doctrine Building, 10471 Grotto Rd., Sealy.
In addition to the Federal and State races in the general election, there are several Austin County offices on the ballot, but only one Austin County contested race. The County Tax Assessor-Collector race is between incumbent Janice Kokemor and challenger Marcus A. Pena. Other county offices on the ballot include: Sheriff, Jack Brandes is unopposed; County Treasurer, Unexpired term, Laura Kaye is unopposed; and Constable, Precinct 4, James Clark is unopposed.

Safety Seat Checkup Event set for Wednesday

Child Safety Seat Checkup Event scheduled for October 3, 2012 from 10 am to 1 pm in the parking lot of Lowe’s Super S Foods in East Bernard. The child must be present in order to be eligible for a seat inspection. The child’ weight and height is vital information to properly fit a child to the correct safety seat.
This event is sponsored by Texas AgriLife Extension – Wharton County, Gulf Coast Medical Foundation, The East Bernard Health Ministry/First United Methodist Church – East Bernard, and Texas Department of Transportation Passenger Safety.

Arts and Crafts Show in Wallis this weekend

A huge variety of useful and unique items await the smart shoppers who will be attending the annual Arts and Crafts Show at the American Legion Hall in Wallis this Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15. Hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Patrons can browse at their leisure in the air-conditioned comfort of the hall. Some of the many items offered are aprons, bags, candles, crosses, canned good, bird houses and feeders, dessert stands, soaps, lotions, crochet items, various baby items, beaded jewelry, plant and bottle beads, children’s dresses, pajamas and chairs, stuffed animals, floral, scroll work and more.
Shop for yourself or choose a gift for a special occasion. Admission is $1 per person each day and door prizes will be awarded hourly.
Delicious hamburgers, nachos and drinks will be sold by the American Legion and pastries by the Legion Auxiliary.

Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall to display in El Campo

On July 11-15 the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be displayed in El Campo at Wyatt Elementary.
The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall passed through Wharton County with several recognition and honor stops on the way July 10.
On July 11, the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall will be set up at Myatt Elementary at 501 W. Webb and Blossom Meyer in El Campo. Public viewing will be available from 4-9 p.m. on July 11. The Wall will remain through July 15 with public viewing from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. TAPS will be sounded each evening at 9 p.m.
On July 13, from 9 a.m. until noon there will be a salute and reunion for World War II veterans. Veterans will be honored with a ceremony and a reception to follow at the Veterans Hospitality Tent. All are invited to attend.

Sealybration: Summer fun this weekend

Sealybration brings family fun, outdoor entertainment and great live music to the BP&W Park, 1008 Main St. in Sealy this weekend.
This patriotic-themed event unites the local community and surrounding areas by promoting a family-filled weekend and showcasing our patriotism by portraying the beloved Red, White and Blue from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15. It is sponsored by the Sealy Community Foundation, a local non-profit organization whose mission is serving as a voice for all non-profits with intent to advance education and charity.
This energetic weekend encompasses some of those “not to miss” activities which require lots of participation. This is the time to get some sun while having fun.

Family Fun at the Fun Fest July 28

Fun Fest 2012 (formerly the Wallis Oldtime Fun Festival) will be held at the Wallis American Legion grounds on Saturday, July 28.
Once again exciting events have been planned. There will be rides and games for the kids, a children’s raffle, and a magic show beginning at 11 a.m. A BBQ Cook-off, pie in the face contest (with City Officials participating), dunking booth, paintball shoot, and more will continue throughout the day.
Hamburgers with all the trimmings, sausage in a boat and nachos will be served throughout the day beginning at 11 a.m. A Country Store/Cake Walk will be held inside, while snow cones, funnel cakes, cotton candy, lemonade and much more will be available outside. Music will be provided throughout the day.
