    Lori Kaye Rios King

    Funeral services for Lori Kaye Rios King, 41, of Rosenberg, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

    Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time, with a rosary being recited at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.

    Lori was born August 9, 1971 in Dallas to Juan Manuel Rios and Kaye L. Russell Rios. She was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis and was a substitute school teacher. She passed away August 15, 2012 in Sugar Land.

    Lori is preceded in death by her grandparents.

    She is survived by her father, Juan Rios; her mother, Kaye L. Rios; children, Marisa Kaye King, Racy Douglas King and Symantha Lee King; siblings, Lisa Diane Martinez and husband, Gonzalo, Jr. and Carlos M. Rios and wife, Becky; niece, Shelby Paige Martinez; nephews, Phillip Anthony Martinez, Kyle Aaron Rios and Benjamin Olin Rios; along with other relatives and many friends.

    Gusty Janik

    A funeral service for Gusty Janik, 87, of East Bernard was held Monday, Aug. 20 from Knesek Feneral Home in Wallis with visitation on Sunday. Interment followed the service at National Cemetery in East Bernard. Pallbearers were Jason Janik, Eric Janik, Jody Chmelik, Michael Chmelik, Jim Janik, Eddy Janik and Shane Janik. Honorary pallbearer was Loretta Watkins.

    Gusty was born Sept. 25, 1924. Gusty Janik passed away on Aug. 16, 2012, after a brief illness.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Janik and her parents William and Betty Jochec.
    She is survived by her children Edwin and Irene Janik of East Bernard, Edith and Martin Sharp of Rosenberg and Jimmy James Janik of East Bernard.
    She was blessed with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

    Ila Mae Tomlinson

    Funeral services for Ila Mae Tomlinson, 84, of Cat Spring are Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10:30 am from St. John Lutheran Church in Cat spring, 480 Ross Street, Cat spring, Texas 78933 (979)865-5444. Rev. Kevin Haug officiating. Visitation is Friday, August 24, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm also at the Church. Interment in the Cat Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers — Scott and Lisa Einkauf, Dawn and Alan Prihoda, Alan Jr. and Brittnie Tomlinson , Molly and Sean Timmis, Aaron and Sabrina Brandt, Colby Brandt, Sage Brandt, Shannon Einkauf and Sydney Rae Tomlinson.
    Ila Mae was born August 18, 1928 to Alvin and Goldie (Garling) Dittert in Cat Spring Texas. She attended grade school in Cat Spring and graduated from Sealy High School in 1947. On August 17th, 1947, she was married to Alvin Everett Tomlinson of Wallis. Together they raised four children; Rose Marie of Cat Spring married to Clarence Einkauf, Alan Everett of Katy married to Kay Taylor Tomlinson, Donna Mae of Sealy married to Joe Brandt, and Clinton Ray of Austin, married to Jeanne Joseph Tomlinson.
    Grandchildren include Scott Einkauf and wife Lisa, Dawn Prihoda and husband Alan, Shannon Einkauf, Alan Tomlinson, Jr. and wife Brittnie, Molly Timmis and husband Sean, Aaron Brandt and wife Sabrina, Colby Brandt, Sage Brandt and Sydney Rae Tomlinson. Her great-grandchildren are Corey, Collin and Holten Einkauf, Dalton and Cade Prihoda, Blair, Trey and Brooke Tomlinson, Brandon Novicke, Will and Cayden Timmis, Shelbi Moss and Chloe Jo Brandt.
    Ila Mae grew up in Cat Spring, and loved being with family and friends. She was always organizing civic, community or social events, and enjoyed entertaining guests. Ila Mae worked for a number of local companies including Sealy Decorating Center, Tom’s Dairy Bar, and Levine Brothers. She also enjoyed helping friends and family as an Avon representative. Her roles in the community included American Legion Auxiliary, Son of Herman, Cat Spring Agriculture Society, and many more. Wherever you saw her, Dad was close at hand, they truly enjoyed each other’s company and worked together to help others. Together they were a shining example for marriage, love and family. Ila Mae was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her great sense of humor and beautiful smile will be missed.
    Ila Mae suffered a stroke on Sunday, August 12th. She passed away on August 20, 2012 with her family surrounding her with love and prayers. She is also survived by her brother, Clarence & Delores Dittert of Cat Spring, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Everett Tomlinson, parents Granny and Papa Dittert, and in-laws Charles and Susan Tomlinson.
    In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Cat Spring, American Legion Auxiliary, Cat Spring Agricultural Society, Brazos Valley Hospice Care, or the charity of your choice.

    George Lee Kelner Sr

    George Lee Kelner Sr., 72, died Friday, August 17, 2012 in Houston. He was born September 10, 1939 in Tavner, Texas to William and Frances Kelner. George served his country proudly for 22 years in the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam. He met and married his wife of 37 years during his service to his country.

    Survivors include his wife Yu Won Kelner, 3 sons, Joel Kelner and wife Anna, Vernon Kelner and wife Stefani, George Kelner and wife Meghan, daughter Melanie Gravell and husband Chris, 2 brothers, Ed Michulka and William Kelner and one sister, Willie Mae Pye, 3 grandchildren, Tyler and Deacon Kelner and Allie Medrano. George was preceded in death by his parents.

    Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Father Don Rupert officiating. Burial will follow in the Czech Nation Cemetery in East Bernard. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M.

    Hilda Blahuta

    Funeral Services for Hilda Blahuta, 100, of Wallis will be at 2 p.m. on Aug. 23 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wallis and burial at Hold Cross Cemetery in East Bernard. Visitation for family and friends will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at Knesek and Sons in Wallis.
    Hilda Blahuta was born Dec. 5, 1911 in Moulton. She went to be with the Lord on Aug. 21, 2012. The oldest of five children of Adolf and Lilly Luedeke, she was preceded in death by her parents and her husband A.A. Blahuta, along with her brothers Adolf and Eddie Luedeke and sister Ella Scharnberg.
    She is survived by her sister Lillian Prebilsky of Pearland; her son Glen and his wife Irene of Wallis; four grandchildren Jackie and husband Raul Garcia-Rameau of Rosenberg, Steven Blahuta of LaGrange, Keith Blahuta and wife Ammie of Sugar Land and Ashley and husband Shane Pavlock of Wallis; three great-grandchildren Kristen and Caleb Garcia-Rameau and Keaton Blahuta, along with numerous nieces and nephews that she adored.

    Fred Blair

    Fred Blair, 68, of Wallis, TX died Sunday, June 17, in a tragic glider accident.
    Fred was born on January 25, 1944, in Houston, Texas, though he spent his childhood fishing in the creeks and lakes around his childhood home of Palestine.
    Mr. Blair retired from Houston Lighting and Power after 27 years. He and his wife, Lois, divided their time between Wallis, and Hosuton, where Fred has played the euphonium in the Houston Symphonic Band, and Davenport, Florida since retirement. He and Lois have enjoyed working at Disney World during the winter months for the past 5 years.
    Aside from music and fishing, Mr. Blair loved to fly. He was an experienced glider pilot and instructor. He held his Private Pilot’s License - Glider, his Commercial Pilot’s License - Glider and his Certified Flight Instructor License - Glider. He had logged 775 hours of flying prior to Sunday.
    Fred is survived by his wife, Lois Mann, of 25 years. He is also survived by his brother, John Blair, his three children, Shelley and Kelly Cauble, Rob and Wendy Blair, Brian Blair, and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by Lois’ family of Randy and Tonia Tewell, Scott and Charlene Tewell, Ryan Tewell, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
    A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Greater Houston Soaring Association – A Non-Profit Organization, P.O. Box 421, Wallis, TX 77485.

    Jimmie A. Genzer

    The funeral mass for Jimmie A. Genzer, 87, of East Bernard was held Saturday, March 3 at the Guardian Angel Church in Wallis where Jimmie attended for nearly his entire life.
    Officiating the funeral mass was Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis. Burial was at the National Cemetery near his home in East Bernard next to his mother and father. Pallbearers were Jerry Genzer, Jordan Taska-Genzer, Peyton Taska-Genzer, Andrew Muras, Rodney Muras, Thomas Genzer, Jody Fucik and Brian Banse.
    Jimmie was born Oct 7, 1924, in East Bernard to John Genzer and Louise Chumchal Genzer. He lived his entire life in and around the East Bernard area. Jimmie attended Bernard Prairie school near the family farm and high school in East Bernard.

    Eugene Edmund Barta

    Memorial services for Eugene Edmund Barta, 73, will be held at 11 a.m. on March 17, 2012 at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church, 29 Main St. in Blanco. Eugene died on Feb. 6, 2012 in the hospital at New Braunfels. He battled cancer for several years and it looked like he had won. Then cancer appeared again and his body was already weak. May he rest in peace.
    Gene was born on July 8, 1939 to Bohumil and Anastasia (Stasie) Barta at the Moore Prairie Farm of his grandparents near Orchard. He attended Guardian Angel Catholic School for eight years and then graduated Wallis High School class of 1957. He attended Wharton County Junior College in Wharton and The University of Houston. He was employed by Dow Chemical of Freeport while living in West Columbia. After his retirement he and his family moved to Sattler where he owned and operated a radiator shop. He lived near the Guadalupe River of New Braunfels. He enjoyed this area since it gave him easy access to the river and to his many hobbies of hunting, fishing, camping, making beer and gardening.
    Gene was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Dempsy Brast.
    Gene is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Carol and their three sons Timothy and wife Joy of Wimberly, Stephen of Round Rock and Daniel of San Marcos; grandchildren Deidra Ann Barta, Dustin Lassiter, Rebecca Bailey and Jordyn and Emily Barta; brothers David Barta and wife Loretta of Deer Park, Charlie Barta of Wallis; sisters Bernice Brast of Wallis and Gloria Ann McCain of Eagle Lake and many nieces and nephews.

    Maggie Jewel Calhoun Davis

    Maggie Jewel Calhoun Davis, 82, of Weston Lakes passed away at the home of her daughter on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. She is now free from pain and in the loving arms of her God.
    Jewel was born on June 29, 1929 in Scott County, Miss. to Ollie B. Calhoun and Myrtle Mae McPherson. Jewel and Fred made their home in Natchez, Miss. They moved to Weston Lakes in 2002 to be near their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On the many visits to Mississippi during holidays or summers, she made certain that she had prepared the favorite food for each of her Texas family member. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor to everyone.
    She was preceded in death by her father at the age of 12; mother, Myrtle McPherson Cannon; step-father, who she dearly loved, Reagan Cecil Cannon; her loving husband of 63 years, Fred Arnold Davis; and son-in-law, Frank Percy Lathrop.

    Frank Jerome Hafernick

    Frank Jerome Hafernick, 84, passed away Feb. 18, 2012, at his home in Orchard surrounded by his family.
    He was born Jan. 13, 1928 in El Campo to the late Mary Kaspar and Gilbert John Hafernick.
    Frank grew up on a farm near El Campo. He graduated from El Campo High School in 1945 and then followed his brothers to the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1951. He served five years in the U.S. Army. He later earned a Masters of Educational Administration Degree and Superintendents Certification from Sam Houston State University.
