Mary Francis Janik, 85, of Clute passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 09, 2011.
Mary was born in East Bernard and graduated from Bernard Prairie High School. She married the love of her life, Raymond Janik, in 1946. They made their first home in Freeport and later moved to Clute. Mary was a consummate wife, mother and accomplished cook. Her warm personality endeared everyone to her and her compassion for others was exercised through her dedication to family, friends and her work through Christ.

Betsy Scrogin Lindsey

Betsy Scrogin Lindsey, 63, of Gilmer passed away March 9, 2011 at ETMC in Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents Grid and Bessie Scrogin of Wallis and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Mr. and Mrs. C. Lindsey of Gilmer.
Betsy is survived by her husband Richard of Bilmer, sisters Jackie Blazek of Richmond and Marilyn Baker of Houston, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marian and Darwin Hanson of Gilmer and many nieces, nephews and loving friends in Gilmer, Wallis and the surrounding areas.
Funeral services were held March 13 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Gilmer.
Charles “Hoot” Gibson Jr.

Graveside services for Charles "Hoot" Gibson Jr., 87, were be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salty Cemetery near Thorndale.
Charles "Hoot" Gibson Jr. was born on Feb. 2, 1924 in the Salty Community near Thorndale, the son of Charles and Ellye Rhae (Caffey) Gibson Sr. Charles and Anna Laura Muckelroy were married in January 1951 in Appleby and had lived in Rockdale, Houston, Sealy and had returned home to the Salty Community after he had retired and had enjoyed his life with his wife back home for the past 27 years.

Ernest E. Harry

Services for Ernest Edward “E.E.” Harry, 93, of Temple and formerly of Cameron will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron with the Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Entombment was in the St. Monica’s Mausoleum. Ernest Edward “E.E” Harry died Thursday, Feb. 24, in a Temple assisted living center.
He was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Wallis to Leon Edward and Josephine Talafuse Harry. He married Ethel Doss on Jan. 23, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2010. He retired as a supervisor for Dow Chemical after 42 years. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church and the Cameron Lions Club for many years.
He was preceded in death by a son, David Harry.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest Edward “Ed” Harry of Johnson City and Wayne Harry of Austin; two daughters, Barbara Hajovsky of Cameron and Elaine Harry Jenkins of Angleton; two sisters, Edna Harry and Mildred Harry, both of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the St. Monica’s Building Fund.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron.
Apollonia ‘Pearl’ Zurek

The funeral mass for Apollonia ‘Pearl’ Zurek , 92, was celebrated Friday, Feb. 18 at the Guardian Angel Church in Wallis officiated by Fr. Thuy Quang Nguyen. Wake service and Rosary on Thursdayk Feb. 17 was conducted by Deacon Jerome Losack. Pallbearers were Jon Zurek, Philip Zurek, John Ondrush, Neal Adamcik, Frank Huvar and Malcolm Zurek.
Apollonia ‘Pearl’ Zurek was born on Oct. 21, 1918 and went home to be with our Lord on Feb. 16, 2011. She passed away peacefully while living at Fort Bend Nursing Home in Rosenberg, where she had many kind caregivers.

Funeral Services for John F.”PoPo” Drozd, 88, of Wallis, Texas, will be Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis with Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. Entombment in the Guardian Angel Mausoleum. Pallbearers are David Konvicka, Joe Kachinski, Glen Konvicka, Michael Konvicka, Mikey Drozd, Jason Nawara, Tim Baggstrom, Michael Drozd, Sr. and Kristy Konvicka. The Wallis American Legion serves as Honor Guards with full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Jerry G. Zalesak, 81, of Wallis were held on Saturday, Feb. 12 from Guardian Angel Catholic Church with Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Entombment followed in the Guardian Angel Mausoleum in Wallis. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 11 with a Rosary held at Guardian Angel Catholic Church.
Pallbearers were Christopher Racz, Johnathon Racz, Michael Racz, Stephen Zalesak, Henry Lindsay and Edwin E. Janik.

Ernest C. Willard

Funeral services for Ernest C. Willard, 84, of East Bernard will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Alex Lupo and Rev. Michael Holcomb officiating. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 421 Pietzsch, East Bernard from 5– 7:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011.
Ernest was born in Teague to Clara and E.C. Willard. When Ernest was a young boy, his family moved to Palestine where his father was employed with the railroad. Ernest graduated from Palestine High School in December of 1943. He later entered Sam Houston State University and completed one semester.

Funeral services for Millie “Mimi” Vazansky, 89, of Sealy will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis with Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen and Deacon Jerome Losak celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. Interment will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Wallis. Pallbearers are Leroy Rosenauer, Lefty Hanzelka, Frank Reznicek, John Dyer, Rick Haidusek and Ben Stolarski.

Robert Emmett Houlihan

A memorial service for Robert Emmett Houlihan, 92, of Simonton was held on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Simonton Community Church in Simonton.
Robert was born to parents James and Rowena (Walker) Houlihan. Robert graduated from Rice University in 1942 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II from 1942-45 as a Captain on Guadalcanal. He married the love of his life, Lorinda Langfeldt on June 7, 1947. His career began at Maintenance Engineering working in engineering sales. He and his boss, Brant Rawson left Maintenance Engineering and started Rawson & Co. Inc. in 1954.
He retired in 1981 to a life of leisurely living in Simonton. He loved playing golf at the Valley Lodge Country Club and dinner with the Thursday night group. Robert Emmett Houlihan passed away peacefully in his sleepFeb. 2, 2011 at home in Simonton from complications of Alzheimers.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorinda; his sons Mike and Bobby; and his siblings Pat, Rowena, Francis and Jim.
He is survived by his sons David and wife Mary of Simonton and Jim and wife Cindy of Houston; his grandchildren J.D., Ashlyne, Alexis and Kiele; and his brother Terry of Schulenburg.
