    Lawrence J. Holecek

    A Mass of Christian burial for Lawrence J. Holecek, 74, was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 25 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station with Reverend Michael O’Connor officiating. Entombment followed in Msgr. Gleissner Mausoleum at Mt. Calvary cemetery in Bryan. Visitation was held Monday Jan. 24 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station with a Vigil Service at the funeral home.

    Louise Rejsek

    A funeral mass for Louise Rejsek, 89, of Wallis was celebrated Monday, Jan. 31 at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church, in Wallis with Rev. Thuy Nguyen, celebrant. Burial followed in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Wallis. Pallbearers were Drew Sulak, Brian Ray, Casey Rejsek, Bret Barnes, Chad Barnes and Todd Koym.
    Louise was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Wallis to John Schiller and Mary (Cerny) Schiller. She retired as a bookkeeper and was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church. Louise Rejsek, 89, of Wallis passed away, Friday, Jan. 29, 2011 in Wharton.
    Louise was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert, William "Bill" and Bohumil Schiller; and her husbands Jim Silva and Frank Rejsek.
    She is survived by a step-daughter Bernice Ray and husband John of Corpus Christi; step-sons Donald Rejsek and wife Janice of Rosenberg, Wilfred Rejsek and wife Jeanette of East Bernard; George Rejsek and wife Troyce of Bellaire and Frank Rejsek and wife Donna of East Bernard; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Visitation was held Jan. 30 with the Virgil Services from the Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis.
    Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.
    Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Knesek and Sons Funeral Home, Wallis, www.knesekfuneralhome.com.

    Evelyn Tavener Brown

    The memorial for Evelyn Tavener Brown, 91, was held Jan. 13 at the Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, followed by interment in the Methodist Cemetery of East Bernard in the Tavener plot next to her husband Glen.
    Evelyn Myrtle Tavener was born May 9, 1919 to B.E. Tavener and Agnes Foitik Tavener of Tavener. In February 1938, she married Glen D. Brown of Pine Bluff, Ark., whom she met while living in Houston. Stanolind Oil and Gas Company moved them to High Island, where their only child Glenda Lynn was born; then to Pampa and on to Fort Worth, where they lived for 16 years.

    Laura Kainer McBride

    A funeral service for Laura Kainer McBride, 96, of Weimar, will be held Friday, Jan. 21 at the United Methodist Church in Wallis officiated by Rev. Ric Walters. Interment followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. Pallbearers were James A. McBride II, Val Jones, Craig McNease, Harry Matula, Larry Lamar and Kenneth Lamar. Honorary pallbearer was Patrick Kainer.

    Mary Jane Macha

    Funeral Services for Mary Jane Macha, 67, of Wallis were held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis with Deacon Don Ries officiating. A rosary was recited by Kathryn Strong preceding the service. Interment was in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Wallis.
    Mary Jane Macha was born on July 16, 1943 in Wallis to parents Theo and Annie Prazak Macha. (more…)

    Robert (Bob) Olson

    Funeral Services for Robert (Bob) Olson, 78, of East Bernard were Thursday, Jan. 6 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Rev. Don Rupert celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard. Pallbearers were The American Legion.
    Robert Alvin Olson was born on Feb. 14, 1932 to parents Harry O. Olson and Alma Harris Olson in Custer, S.D. Bob was raised in South Dakota and worked as a fire inspector for the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1971 after 20 years of service. He then worked for Schindler Bros. Mfg. in Sealy, as a brick layer for 13 years and in 1974 moved to East Bernard.

    Irene (Petrusek) Neshyba

    Irene (Petrusek) Neshyba passed away Dec. 23, 2010. She was born in Frydek, lived in Wallis area, graduated from Wallis High School. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Jane (Sabrsula) Petrusek and brothers Ben and Erwin Petrusek. She is survived by her husband Steve, six children, 12 grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Jurik.

    Ludwig J. Sodolak, Sr

    Funeral Services for Ludwig J. Sodolak, Sr., 85, of Sealy were held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frydek with Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment followed in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Frydek Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, John Sodolak, Nathan Sodolak, Josh Novicke, Nick Novicke, Jacob Novicke, Jeremy Novicke, Robbie Bozeman, and close family friend Larry Novicke. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons Camp Sodolak, Grey Sodolak, Greg Kasberg, Chris Mallett, and CW2. Steven Colburn, who is currently serving our country in the United States Army in Afghanistan, and his close friends Melvin Klatt, Sr.,and Michael Kubricht.

    Funeral Services for Henrietta Kubena, 88, were held on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Pitre celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment followed in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Leo Baca, Jim Baca, Larry Baca, Leonard Uhyrek, Michael Uhyrek, John Bravenec and Brian Graf.

    Margaret Yesney

    Margaret Yesney, a winter resident of Wallis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Oct. 18 in Michigan with her daughter by her side. Margaret spent several winters living with her family, Charles and Nancy Spates and their children Brittany and Brianna.
    Margaret Frances Oravecz was born Sept. 1, 1931 to Stephan and Anna (Buchak) Oravecz who immigrated from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900’s. She met the love of her life as a young girl and later married Howard Yesney on Feb. 4, 1950. Children from this union include Howie Jr., Robert and Nancy. Margaret and Howard eventually built their dream home in Topaz and lived there throughout their 54 years of marriage until Howard’s passing in 2004.
