Middle School Band Students Chosen for All-Region Band

Sixteen Brazos Middle School Band students traveled to Edna on Saturday, Nov. 15, to audition for the Region 13 Middle School All-Region Band. Five students were chosen to participate at the region band concert and clinic to be held Dec. 6 in Palacios: Cody Henry (1st chair Baritone), Micah Gonzalez (3rd chair Percussion), Jessie Nanes (8th chair Trumpet), Madison King (10th chair Flute) and Monica Duty (11th Chair Flute).

Eighth Grade Cougars earn tie with Tigers

Using a stalwart defense, and unable to penetrate the end zone the Brazos Middle School 8th grade took home a tie with the Sealy Tigers 0-0.
In the first quarter Sealy threatened to score, driving deep into Cougar territory. The Cougars managed to come up with a defensive stop and took over the ball.

Wallis and Orchard locals named to Dean’s List

Wharton County Junior College has recognized a number of area students as distinguished scholars for the spring semester of 2008, according to Karen Preisler Director of Admissions and Registration.
Tiffany Nicole Lavergne, Megan Victoria Parker and Matthew Allen Pulos of Wallis and Patrick Wayne Alvarado, Brianna Michelle Linares and William Christopher Phillips of Orchard were named to the Dean’s List for earning at least a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible perfect 4.0 in all work completed during at least 12 semester hours of work.

Patrick Oliver recently received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science with a minor in Recreation from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor on Aug. 9. He was a 2002 graduate of Brazos High School and currently resides in Reykjavik, Iceland where he is head coach for Fjolnir’s women’s basketball team who competes in the Top League in Iceland. He will also be playing for Fjolnir’s men’s basketball team.
Bluebonnet Master Gardeners seek scholarship applicants

The Bluebonnet Master Gardeners Association serving Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington Counties will offer the Harry DeFoy Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 for the 2008-09 school years. Harry was an avid gardener and member of BMGA. He was a good friend who believed in giving back to his community through volunteer service and expanding educational opportunity. The funds for the Harry DeFoy Scholarship were provided from memorial donations.

East Bernard student is placed on Dean’s List at Trinity University

Jacob P. Wilson of East Bernard has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2008 spring semester at Trinity University.
The Dean’s List honors Trinity students who maintain a grade point average of 3.65 or better while enrolled in a minimum of 15 semester hours. A total of 324 students earned this distinction in the spring.
Trinity University, founded in 1869, is one of the nation’s top private undergraduate institutions. Noted for its superior academic quality, outstanding faculty, and exceptional academic and residential resources, Trinity is committed to the intellectual, civic, and professional preparation of its students.
