Nowak awarded scholarship

Garrett Charles Nowak, a graduate of Brazos High School, has been awarded a scholarship by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.
Nowak received a Spalding Sports Worldwide award in the amount of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year. The Spalding Sports award was awarded to 40 students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement.

Special Education Services

Private/Home Schooled Students
Brazos ISD provides special education services to children who have or are suspected of having a disability. Special education services are available to children with disabilities ages 3 through 21. Children who have impaired vision or hearing can receive services from birth through age 21. Services are also provided to students with disabilities attending a private school located within the boundaries of Brazos ISD, regardless of the child’s place of residence.

Orsak graduates from TAMU

Andrew Nathan Orsak, of Wallis, graduated on May 9 from Texas A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The graduation speaker was Eric M. Bost, U.S. Ambassador to South Africa. Among his responsibilities is overseeing President Bush’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which provides treatment to more than 2 million South Africans infected with HIV/AIDS. Bost has served as Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services and the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Department of Human Services.
Bost said students should take time and think before they spoke or acted. He said there was always time to pause and consider what should be your next action.
This semester, Texas A&M awarded a record 5,484 degrees to graduates in the two-day graduation ceremonies, which were held at Reed Arena.
With an enrollment of more than 6,400 students, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees and has a faculty of more than 300 members, including two Nobel laureates. Research programs include human and animal health, genetics, renewable natural resources and bioenergy.
Local resident earns academic honors from Texas Lutheran University

Texas Lutheran University student Russell Dittrich of Orchard was recently named to the university’s Dean’s List for the 2008 spring semester. The Dean’s List honors those students who maintained a grade point average of 3.5-3.99 with a minimum of 12 graded hours during the semester. Dittrich, a sophomore at TLU and a graduate of Brazos High School, is the son of Michael and Pat Dittrich.
Texas Lutheran is an exclusively undergraduate university of the liberal arts, sciences and professional studies. Founded in 1891, TLU is located in Seguin, less than an hour from San Antonio and Austin. For more information, visit the university’s web site at www.tlu.edu.

The 2008 Brazos Senior’s Memory video will be available July 21. This is the actual memory video presented and viewed during the Friday evening ceremony for The 2008 graduates of Brazos High School. This is a beautiful and heartfelt memory video of the graduates lives from kindergarten to graduation. The senior song portion is also included in the video. The Austin County Fair Increases Scholarship Program

From 1993 through 2004, The Austin County Fair Association gave six $1,000 scholarships annually in memory of deceased directors and deceased spouses of directors. In 2005, the Austin County Fair Board of Directors voted to increase the number of scholarships given annually up to twelve $1,000 scholarships. In 2006, The Austin County Fair Board of Directors voted to increase the amount of the scholarships from $1,000 to $1,500. In 2007, the board voted to increase the scholarships from $1,500 to $2,000. For the fourth year in a row, the Austin County Fair increased their scholarship program. In 2008, the board voted to increase the scholarships from $2,000 to $2,500. The Scholarship Committee can award up to twelve $2,500 scholarships to qualified applicants.

Litzmann named to Who’s Who list

Zane Litzmann of Sealy Jr. High School is being honored by the Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence for outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. Zane is the son of Mark and Barbara Litzmann.
Litzmann’s name will appear in the hardback edition of the Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence alongside other students across the nation recognizing them as exemplary students.
The Who’s Who Registry of Academic Excellence is a publication honoring the nation’s top students. Less than one percent of students nationwide are featured in the book. Students are listed because of outstanding academic performance and involvement in extracurricular activities in the community.
They are nominated by school officials, leaders of youth activity groups and third party educational organizations.
Students listed in the publication are also eligible to receive a Who’s Who scholarship for as much as $5,000 toward the college of their choice. Scholarships are funded in part through publication sales.

Witte, Kolafa receive Natalie Marie Marek Memorial Scholarship

Brandi Witte and Kayla Kolafa have been chosen as recipients of the Natalie Marie Marek scholarship for the 2007-08 school year. Brandi and Kayla are both 2008 graduates of Brazos High School. Brandi will attend the University of Houston where she will major in physical therapy and will be a member of the UH track team. Brandi is the daughter of Melinda and Jerry Witte. Kayla will attend Sam Houston State University where she will also major in physical therapy. Kayla is the daughter of Deena and David Kolafa.
