    Brazos fans are getting “Cougar Ready”

    The Brazos Elementary and Middle Schools are getting Cougar Ready headed by BES Principal Ian Supak.
    Brazos ISD is pleased to announce the introduction of Cougar Ready Nights for students of Brazos Elementary School and Brazos Middle School.
    The way it works is simple. Every Brazos Elementary and Middle School student will have the chance to attend a game with a parent, absolutely free. For each grade level, passes will be distributed that will admit the student and one parent to that grade’s scheduled Cougar Ready home game.

    The Brazos Cougars started the week with a 6-2 loss to district foe Schulenburg on Tuesday night. Ladgie Zotyka was on the mound for Brazos and suffered his first loss of the season. Tabor Kovasovic was 2 for 3 and scored both Brazos runs. Mark Fernandez was 3 for with an RBI. The Cougars are 1-1 in the District 28-2A race.
    The Cougars rebounded with four straight wins and the Championship of the Brazos Varsity Baseball Tournament. On Thursday they defeated Van Vleck 20-2. Jesse Nanes was the winning pitcher. Everyone got a hit.

    Cougarette softball earns a split in tournament play

    It’s all about concentration for freshman pitcher Brandi Hajovsky as she pitched the Cougarettes to a win over Bloomington in the Brazos Softball Tournament.

    The Brazos Cougarettes won two and lost two in the Brazos Varsity Softball Tournament last weekend.
    The Cougarettes started the tournament with wins over Royal, 6-1, and Bloomington, 10-2, before falling to Porter, 15-3, in pool play on Friday, Feb. 25.
    District rival Schulenburg defeated the Cougarettes in the first round of bracket play on Saturday by a score of 11-0.

    Thormaehlen sets school record in discus at Cougar Relays

    Cougarette Juanita Moore competed in the discus event at the Cougar Relays with a throw of 74-01.5.


    Willie Joe Fernandez placed sixth in the 800M run in a time of 11:12.47 at the Cougar Relays, March 24.

    Brazos senior Reid Thormaehlen tossed the discus 163-02 to set a new school record for the event at the Cougar Relays on Feb. 24. Team mate Alan Zapalac placed second in the event with a throw of 146-05.5. Thormaehlen also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41-05.5.
    Overall, the Cougars were sixth in the team standings with 39 points. Bellville was meet champion with 127 points.

    Cougarettes finish strong to stop Schulenburg

    The Brazos Cougarettes defeated Schulenburg 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 22-25 and 16-14 on Tuesday, Oct. 26. The win leaves Brazos in second place in District 28-2A with a record of 10-2.
    Brazos will play Lago Vista Nov. 2, in Luling at 7 p.m. in the first round of playoffs. There will be no warm up match this week.

    Tough end to a great season

    Cougar senior Clayton Orsak pitched well in game 2 of the Blanco series in Pearsall and helped himself defensively fielding a hot grounder back to the mound.

    By any standards, except for the hopes and expectations of team members, the Brazos Cougars had an outstanding season. A two-game series loss to Blanco in the Area Round of the playoffs ended their hopes of a long playoff run, but the season may have set the stage for future Brazos baseball teams.
    “This is only the beginning,” replied Brazos Coach Rickey Witt immediately following the game. It was his reply to a question of what the early playoff exit meant to Brazos baseball.

    Playoff results

    Baseball and softball teams from District 26-2A are still active in the playoff brackets despite two of the baseball teams falling last week. All games were affected by the rains on Friday and Saturday causing many location changes.
    Brazos baseball was defeated by Blanco 10-8 and 2-1 and Schulenburg fell to Comfort 1-0, 13-12.
    Weimar baseball advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals by defeating Navarro 4-2 and 4-3. They will play Blanco in the next round.
    Softball district champ Hallettsville advanced to the Region Semifinals with a victory over Poth by scores of 4-2, 1-4 and 5-2. The will play Refugio in the next round.
    Weimar girls were eliminated by Rogers 11-8 and 4-2.
