Post season awards are sometimes bittersweet. Despite the Cougarettes failure to reach the playoffs this season, district coaches voted to recognize five Brazos volleyball players on the District 26-2A All District team.
Junior Bari Minters was named as Newcomer of the Year for the district and sophomore Taylor Boggs and junior Meghan Stavinoha were first team selections.
Minter became a force on the front line during the season with solid blocking and hard kills. Boggs was the youngest player on the varsity, but a returning starter and a leader on the court. Boggs consistently marked the stats page in all areas including kills, blocks, digs and assists. Stavinoha took over the defensive specialist role at libero this season and was an animated and active force on the back line.

The Brazos cross country teams kept an amazing streak alive when senior Mosses Romo qualified for the state cross country meet with a seventh place individual finish at the Region IV meet in San Antonio last weekend. Nonetheless, Cougar and Cougarette runners all aim at the state meet each season and are disappointed when they stop short of that goal.

The Brazos Cougars met the best team they have faced this season in the finale last Friday. The Rice Consolidated Raiders showed why they are undefeated in district and ranked 13th in the state polls according to texasfootball.com. Brazos fell to the Raiders 36-3.
The Cougars made some critical errors early to get in a hole Rice would not let them climb out of. Brazos went three and out on the first possession and Rice blocked the punt to take possession at the Cougar two-yard line. Raider Terrance Shorter scored on the first play and the PAT failed for a 6-0 lead.

A chilly breeze and hard rains up to game time set the stage for a defensive battle at Cougar Stadium last Friday night. A stingy Brazos defense held a strong Hempstead offense in check for all but one play. That play went for 57 yards and a touchdown with only seven minutes remaining in the game and was the winner in a 10-7 Hempstead victory.

The Brazos started quickly in Schulenburg last week, but fell a little short to the relentless Shorthorns who pushed back to a 30-21 victory.
Brazos scored twice before they ever ran an offensive play. Following a great Walter Lopez kickoff for Brazos, the defense penned Schulenburg inside their 10-yard line. An offside penalty moved them further back and on third down, Cougar defenders caused a fumble that Lopez recovered in the end zone for a score. Brazos’ kick was good for a 7-0 lead with only 55 seconds off the clock.
