BREAKING NEWS - Cougarettes to play for State title

Brazos Cougarettes won the semi-final game against Centerville at the State volleyball match won in five games on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos.
Brazos won the first two and then Centerville came back and won the second two games. Brazos won the last game 21-19. They will play the winner of the match between Bushland and Pottsboro Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m.

Middle School Band Students Chosen for All-Region Band

Sixteen Brazos Middle School Band students traveled to Edna on Saturday, Nov. 15, to audition for the Region 13 Middle School All-Region Band. Five students were chosen to participate at the region band concert and clinic to be held Dec. 6 in Palacios: Cody Henry (1st chair Baritone), Micah Gonzalez (3rd chair Percussion), Jessie Nanes (8th chair Trumpet), Madison King (10th chair Flute) and Monica Duty (11th Chair Flute).

Puppies and parrots at the Legion

The American Legion Hall in Sealy will be the place to purchase a puppy or hand fed parrot Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cages, feed and toys will also be available to purchase. The Legion Hall is located at 1630 Meyers, Sealy across from Tony’s Family Restaurant. Admission is $4 for children six and under. Hometown Christmas in Fulshear offers free entertainment

Fulshear Friday Night once again will offer free entertainment for the young and young at heart with "A Hometown Christmas" celebration on Friday, Dec. 5. A light parade featuring Santa Claus in a horse drawn carriage begins at 6:30 pm. Festivities continue at the Fulshear United Methodist Church grounds, located at 2nd and Harris Streets, and include crafts, booths, and special Christmas cards for the U.S. soldiers. Entertainment will be provided by Huggins Elementary School choir, hand bells, church choirs and the Foster High School Flairs. The evening concludes with a firework display. Hundl, Kosik exchange vows

Amanda Ann Hundl of East Bernard and Kevin Michael Kosik of Wallis were united in marriage at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008.
Rev. Don Ruppert officiated the double-ring ceremony held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Following the ceremony, a reception, dinner and dance were held at Riverside Hall in East Bernard.
Amanda is the daughter of Gene and Belinda Hundl of East Bernard. She is the granddaughter of Agnes Jochec of East Bernard and the late August Jochec Sr. and Ed Hundl of Wharton and the late Lydia Hundl.

Cougar seniors finish careers at Cougar Stadium

Brazos seniors played their final football game at Cougar Stadium on Nov. 7. Eleven Cougar seniors finished the 2008 football season and their high school football careers against Rice Consolidated on Nov. 7. A move this season to one of the toughest 2A football districts in the state and numerous injuries throughout the season led to these seniors not reaching the playoffs for the first time since they started high school.
According to Coach Keith Novicke, this group provided solid leadership for the team and played hard all season long.

Grigar participates at State Cross Country Meet

Lindsey Grigar was the sole representative for Brazos Cross Country teams at the State Meet in Round Rock on Nov. 15. Grigar finished 67th in the 2A Girls Division in a time of 12:23.32.
Spearman scored 41 points and was the 2A Girls Champion. East Bernard girls finished fifth as a team with a total of 138 points.
In the Boys Division, Wall was the champion with 49 points and East Bernard finished third as a team with 112 points.

District 26-2A football playoffs

All three District 26-2A football representatives won in the first round of playoffs.
Rice Consolidated was the undefeated District Champion. The Raiders ran over Salado in Division I by the score of 31-7. Quarterback Myles Dumont passed for 187 yards, three touchdowns and ran for another score. Rice will play Navarro in the second round on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. The game will be at Matador Stadium in Seguin.

Seeking entries for Yard Christmas Decorating Contest

The Wallis Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Inc. is again sponsoring the Yard Christmas Decorating Contest. First and second place trophies will be given to recognize three different categories - rural, city and businesses decorated with a Christmas theme. All entries must have lots of lights. Categories being judged are Best Religious Display or Best Use of Lights or Overall Best Organized Yard.

Apache helicopter lands in Wallis

The 2nd annual Independence Ride brought many riders even in the cold windy weather Saturday morning at the Wallis KC Hall. The Schlumberger Cycling Club partnered with the ConocoPhillips Cycling Club and the Chevron Cycling Club in support of wounded veterans. This year the Wallis KC sold barbecue sandwiches while Nashville recording artist Stephen Cochran entertained and the riders arrived back at the hall.
