Royce Marie Kaechele

Royce Marie Kaechele, 57, formerly of Wallis, lost her battle with cancer and passed away on Nov. 17, 2008.
Royce was born on Dec. 17, 1950 in Sealy, the daughter of Charles Roy and Frieda Kaechele.  She was raised in Wallis.  Royce graduated from Wallis High School in 1968.  She then obtained her degree in Education after attending Wharton County Junior College and Abilene Christian College.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lucy Delores (Pechanec) Hunter

Services for Lucy Delores Pechanec Hunter, 83, were held at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Humble. Interment was at Brookside Cemetery in Houston.
Lucy was born Dec. 29, 1924 in Sealy (Frydek). Lucy graduated from Sealy High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Houston. She and her husband Walter had three children. She and her husband moved to Humble in 1969 and she lived there until her death. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas – Court 2374 – Court of the Cross, the Keenagers, several senior groups and various gardening groups. Dallas Mckenna Lawry

Amy and Neal Lawry are proud to introduce their daughter, Dallas Mckenna Lawry.  Dallas was born Oct. 30, 2008 at 9:40 a.m., weighing in at 7lbs., 1 oz., 19-1/4 inches long.  She is the granddaughter of Freddie and Wanda Engelbrecht of Wallis and C.D. and Marie Lawry of Iola.  Dallas is the great-granddaughter of Lennie Wanda Morton of Pasadena.

Nathan Alan Hoffman

Karl and Debra Hoffman of Katy, are pleased to announce the birth of their first child, Nathan Alan Hoffman.  Nathan was born at 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 26, 2008 in Memorial Hermann Hospital - Katy.  He weighed 6 lbs. 10 oz. and was 19 inches in length. Nathan’s grandparents are Leroy and Carole Valicek of Wallis and Judith Hoffman of San Antonio, and the late Ret. Major Alan Hoffman.   His only living great-grandparent is Victoria Valicek of Rosenberg.  Watching Nathan from the heaven’s above are his other late great-grandparents Leon Valicek of Rosenberg, Willie and Stella Sommers of Wallis, Gerald and Ruth Bodine of Dormont, Pa., and Karl and Helen Hoffman of Waynesburg, Pa. Nathan was named after his late grandfather, Alan Gordon Hoffman and great-grandfather, Willie Nathan Sommers.

Brazos board receives bond proposals, accepts Athletic Director’s resignation

Brazos ISD trustees received great news Tuesday when they opened the bond proposals from four contractors concerning renovations and additions to the high school campus approved in November’s bond election. The trustees also faced not so good news as they accepted the resignation of Athletic Director Keith Novicke.
Bond proposals presented to the board for the $6.9 million approved bond amount were $6,024,000 from State Construction, $5,561,000 from Gaeke Construction, $5,435,000 and the low bid was $5,089,000 from Collier Construction.

Happy 50th Anniversary

Melvin and Johnnie Klatt of Sealy celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Industry Fireman’s Hall with around 400 family and friends. They enjoyed a delicious dinner and danced to the music of Vrazel’s Polka band.

Have Fun Outdoors

South Zone Duck hunting in Texas has improved during the last weekend of the first split. Stiff north winds have spread out large flocks of blue wing and green wing teal, which helped marsh hunters and prairie hunters. The most consistent hunting during the first 30 days occurred in Wharton County near Wharton, El Campo and East Bernard. Hunter numbers were down on the Coastal prairie. Hunters near Port O’Connor and Rockport saw fair hunting. Many outfitters say bird numbers are down. Redheads, Wigeons, Gadwalls and Pintails were the species most harvested. Inland ponds in Calhoun County, hunting has been better in the past week.

Long time news editor to lead Christmas parade

Lucille Jemela, former long time editor of the Wallis News-Review will serve as this year’s Parade Marshal for the Annual Wallis Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Christmas parade to be held Saturday, Dec. 20.
Jemela worked for the local newspaper for 29 years from Dec. 4, 1976 until her retirement in April 2006. For over 20 consecutive years she was behind the camera capturing all aspects of the Chamber’s annual Christmas parade and of the winners in the Chamber’s business and residential Christmas decorating contests.

Fulshear Friday Night’s Christmas party a smash hit

Over 800 people came out on a brisk night and lined the streets to watch a “parade of lights” down Main Street.
“Just incredible,” said Cheryl Stalinsky, who helped organize this for the City of Fulshear.  “Even more impressive for a town of only 789 people,” she said. 
Fans marveled at more than 30-highly creative Entrants, which included lighted floats of all types, shapes and sizes.  The parade was led by fire trucks and followed by Santa on a horse drawn “sleigh.”

Raymond Parr Sr.

Funeral services for Raymond Parr Sr., 71, of Needville were held Wednesday, Dec. 10 from the Knesek and Sons Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Wayne Woods officiating. Burial followed in the Wallis City Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Henry Nawara, Kenny Brau, Donnie Parr, Gary Korenek, Jack Mangrum and Carl Cearly. Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons, Buster Parr, nephews, cousins and best friend Jerry Garner.
